Machermo is a small valley with a couple of houses on route to the lake Gokyo, at an altitude of 4400m, which lies between Dole and Gokyo. It's a small remote village where herdsmen used to come to graze their cattle from the lower region. It is here when in the year 1974, a local village woman had a fight with a so called "Yeti" and the Yeti killed a couple of Yaks. It has not been so long that the place or should I say the whole route leading to the lake Gokyo, has been known to the people for trekking and mountaineering. Hence, only fewer people have explored this place. This route for trekking is being recognized and recommended by most of the trekkers and trekking agencies nowadays.

Namgyal Lodge is owned by Mr. Namgyal Wangdi Sherpa & Mrs. Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. It was established in the year 1996 and since then it has come a long way serving its guest and providing food and shelter for the visitors. It is one of the best lodges you will find in the region. The view from here is really spectacular and adorable. With the Machermo peak on its top, Kantega Peak down the valley, two small hills on its side, grazing fields around it and a running stream next to it makes it really spectacular. Trekkers enjoy being here. The quality of the food is one of the finest in the region and of course, we are well known for our hospitality. You will find it more home than a lodge. You could also find a proper camping site in its premises. Well, most people find it a perfect place for acclimatization before heading to the Gokyo Valley. It is recommended to stay at least a day or two at Machermo before continuing the trekking to Gokyo as you will be at the altitude of 4400m. And in addition if you discover any unusual symptoms, you could get it checked here and diagnose the problem. A clinic has been running from one of the room at the Namgyal lodge for the last couple of years with a couple of volunteer doctors from around the world, managed by IPPG (International Porter Protection Group). It provides basic medical services but vital, for the trekkers and visitors mainly related with the altitude sickness commonly known as �AMS� such as HAPE, HACE and others. In case of an emergency, we could also manage a "Rescue Helicopter" on your behalf. You can also facilitate the satellite telephone service.

Recently, near to Namgyal Lodge, a separate building for the clinic is constructed which also facilitates porters by providing free shelter. Mr. Namgyal Wangdi Sherpa has actively been involved in "Machermo Porter Shelter Project" serving as a Construction Chairman and has a vital role in making this project a success. This project will also facilitate the local villagers as well as the other villages near to Machermo. The building was inaugurated on October 10th 2006.
